I see no usb FOB listed.

A BBB with one DMK URI -

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

A RPi2 with two modified FOBs -

What do you mean by the
functions section? There is one functions section called functions<node>
where node is the FIRST node. So both nodes use the same functions. You can
change to a separate functions stanza for the second node if you like but
normally you use one for both.

The only thing I can tell you is if you
follow the directions exactly it does work. You can't plug in the second USB
until it tells you to and you restart. Since I have no way of knowing what you
did it would be hard to troubleshoot remotely.

Not showing up in the
active node list at Allstarlink is not a good indication of whether things are
working since sometimes nodes don't show up there. It looks like it is not
seeing the second USB.

When you did a tune save on usb1 it said not
active. Does the second USB show up in lsusb?

following the instructions on page 10 of setting up a second node for
raspberry pi, I was able to use susb active usb and then use susb tune usb
successfully. then I edited the iax.conf, extensions.conf and rpt.conf files
successfully. rpt.conf is still missing the FUNCTION stanza for the second node
since the instructions did not add that yet.
I then used astdn.sh and astup.sh to reboot asterisk. next I tried the
following but got this error. my primary node 41838 still works but my new node
42087 does not show up in the active node listing. Any suggestions on how
to fix this?

Connected to Asterisk currently running on KITLINK (pid =
6136)
Verbosity is at least 3
  == Refreshing DNS
lookups.
KITLINK*CLI> susb active usb1
KITLINK*CLI> susb tune
save
Device usb1 currently not active

and the following for reference only. my primary node is called usb and my
second node is called usb1

KITLINK*CLI> susb active usb
KITLINK*CLI>
