Stanley,
The executable is most likely not in the path. Try preceding it with ./ as in ./playnews and the rest

Doug, have the playnews file in the /etc/asterisk/local/playnews directory and did the rename to remove the -0.6. ls shows it there. When I try and run playnews ARRL NOW L it states -bash: playnews: command not found
What am I missing, permissions maybe?

I put a new version of playnews up on hamvoip.org<http://hamvoip.org> in the howto section. It includes a request for playing now in console mode. This is useful if you want to get everything ready to play and manually hit a key to start it.

Changes from 0.5
- If you enter "now" for the time it will download and process the files, skip the pre-warnings, wait for any key to be pressed and play the news.
- The node number must be entered.
- An optional last parameter L|G for local or global play can be entered. If omitted playback is global.
I recommend making a directory "playnews" in /etc/asterisk/local cd to that directory and untar the files there.
Rename playnews-0.6 to playnews once extracted.
If the files are not placed in /etc/asterisk/local/playnews you must specify the location in the VOICEDIR variable in the script.
v0.6 updates
- Now requires that all parameters be entered except
mode which defaults to global if not entered
- More parameter checking added
- Time can be set to "NOW" for immediate start
Command line format - playnews ARRL|ARN 21:00|NOW 40000 L|G
Options are ARRL or ARN news, specific 24 hour time or "NOW"
and local "L" or Global "G" play modes.
DO NOT use the the "NOW" time parameter in a cron !!!
Read the complete README file in the archive and also in the beginning of the script.
