It's been too many years... but if my poor memory is correct....In the Syntech 1 top of the volume control may be before de-emphasis. Or better put, VOL/SQL high.

Try it and see what you get.

As for tx audio...
The mic input will play. It uses a dynamic mic, so you don't have to worry about blocking  MIC DC. I remember there being a white jack on the front panel board (assuming this is a front mount, not trunk mount) where the jumper from the mic jack connects. That would make a nice connect point.

I'd rather see it injected downstream of the mic. But sometimes we need to do whatever works.

Before you set the tx level, set the radio to  hard limit at 5 KC deviation with the mic.
