Would turning off the timeout timer during the newscast be an option for you? If so check out COP 7 and 8 and/or the Control State Stanza (http://docs.allstarlink.org/drupal/node/18). You could use those along with cron (or the app_rpt scheduler) to switch at a regular time, say every Monday at 7:30 PM. 

Post back here if you want to pursue this and we’ll work through the details.
