  It is really kind of hard to understand why the static configuration does not work. I am not at all familiar with your router or type of Internet connection.  But there is nothing wrong with using DHCP as long as you always get issued the same IP address. Many routers have a way of doing that by checking the MAC address. So every time the BBB requests an IP address from the router the router would look up the BBB's MAC address in a table and assign the IP you had entered in the table. MAC addresses are unique on every piece of hardware in the world. If your router has that capability it would be a good way to go. Sometimes they call it static DHCP. They you could route the IAX port to a stable IP address.

There is also no requirement to route the IAX port. If you don't do so the result would be that no one would be able to connect to you but you could connect out. In some cases this might be desirable!!!  You also would not need to have a static DHCP IP address in that case either. So think about how you want to run your node. If you don't care about anyone connecting TO you then it doesn't matter.

Hello Doug,
I've been struggling to get my node up for the last few weeks thinking that I had a router config problem. I switched the BBB from static to DHCP tonight as part of my troubleshooting efforts. With no additional changes except commenting out the 4 static IP lines in /etc/netctl/eth0 (and restarting DHCP with systemctl enable dhcpcd) - my node is registering with Allstar for the first time. I'd like to have the node on a static IP, but I have no idea of how to troubleshoot where the problem may be. Suggestions on where/how to begin? 

I downloaded the latest image and started again from scratch last week thinking that I must have screwed something up on the first try, so this is the latest version.

For what it's worth... rebooted my hotspot, rebooted my router, rebooted my MacBook Pro. Switched to Firefox. Download successfully completed in about 3 minutes. Out curiosity, I switched back to Chrome and tried a download. Successfully completed in about 4 minutes. Gremlins are persistent, but can be slain.

So strange. Download/upload speeds are good, but I've stalled again at 2.4 of 386 MB. 4th try since 4 pm (now 8:24 pm local). It just stops downloadiing...

 As far as I know there is no problem with the site. I just downloaded it here as a test and all was fine. Perhaps you have a bad connection? Maybe try a different browser or download program.

Hello Dave, 
Are you perhaps working on the site? Tried three times this afternoon to download the current BBB_Allstar image. Downloads started fine, but simply stop downloading after a few minutes. Didn't want to keep burning up bandwidth trying if there's something 'coming soon' in the wings or other work on the site. My connection to other sites seems OK, but I've not attempted any larger downloads elsewhere.
