Hi Steve,

You can use the image-backup.sh script. I am not sure what version that is on your node. The later versions will ask you the image size and you can specify the image size. The script will create a new image ans storing it to a usb-drive inserted in your node. From there, you can copy the image and use it to create a new sd card image. This image is based upon your current node.

I believe Doug has a how-to on this utility/feature.

73,

Chris

On Wed, Sep 7, 2016 at 6:42 AM, Steve Garrison via arm-allstar <arm-allstar@hamvoip.org> wrote:

Just joined the list and would like to know if there is a way to NOT expand the file system to take up the entire SD card when using a RasPi.

The suggestion I find to “backup” your installation by creating an image of your installation runs into big problems if you have expanded the file system to use the entire card, then you make the image backup and then try to write that image to a card of the exact same size and are told you don’t have enough room.

I’m using Win32DiskImager to image and back up my SD cards, but unless I can limit the file system to say 8GB on a 16GB card, I won’t be able to make that image backup and then write that backed up image to another 16GB card.

Same goes for using larger size cards, even when there isn’t a real need to use a larger card.
