Everything but the letter "D" shows up. I had him run the susb tune
and found the levels were way hot. So after some adjustment we got
the RF DTMF to work.

Now that brought up another issue both of us have. When running the
node(s) in simplex we have no reply to functions like *73, *81, *82,
but we have over the air replies to *70. This is probably just
something we don't have set correctly but I have not been able to
find it since June and now that he has this issue I think we should
try to resolve it.

These functions did operate correctly when my node was in duplex.
This was done with a Baofeng UV5R with feedback turned off and
it has always worked perfectly. See below.

I find it very strange you are seeing nothing. Have you tried
other radios? Levels and pre/deemphasis are prime problems.
Levels should not be that critical in most cases though.

Are you sure you have node radio RX audio to Allstar? You are
seeing proper levels in item 2 of simpleusb-tune-menu ?
5-6khz peaks? If you hit a DTMF key on the input radio can
you hear the tone on the node radio speaker?

Baofeng radios can be a problem because if you don't mute the
tones to the speaker they are picked up both through a direct
route and thru the mic which often causes failure to decode.

See this -
