I totally agree with Dave that relaxing DTMF just masks a problem. We have never had that option turned on by default in our images and have had only a very small number of problems with DTMF most of which can be traced to either equalization problems or radios. The reason it was turned off was that the very small amount of users that might experience DTMF issues vs. the audio degradation that occurred with voice falsing was a reasonable trade off.

Since the problem is with more than one radio I suspect the node radio or audio path probably has an equalization problem. I can only say that having used many different radios over the years both at the node and into the node I have not experienced any problem and have never had to turn on relax.

Also make sure you have the PL filter turned ON.

73 Doug
WA3DSP
http://www.crompton.com/hamradio

> To: kb4fxc@inttek.net; arm-allstar@hamvoip.org
> Date: Mon, 1 Aug 2016 22:22:49 +0000
> Subject: Re: [arm-allstar] DTMF
> From: arm-allstar@hamvoip.org
> CC: n1dot1@gmail.com
>
> hi david
>
> yes but I have had problems with my simplex link radio even after i have
> tried
> adjust the de-emphasis settings and tried different various levels.
>
> not all my radio's would decode properly. that is why i had turned it
> back on
> and recompiled the allstar code.
>
> Now why does jim dixon wb6nil have it on by default in the master
> allstarlink source tree
> by default? there must have been a reason why he put that code in there
> and enabled it.
>
> turning that back on stopped all my troubles with this dtmf stuff.
> but then i had to deal with the false decoding from certain people's voices
> when this was on.
>
> ken n1dot
>
>
>
>
>
> On 8/1/2016 10:13 PM, David McGough wrote:
> >
> > Ken,
> >
> > In 99% of the cases, RADIO_RELAX isn't the problem.
