<DIV>When rpt.conf loads I am guessing that some format of each courtesy tone is
stored in ram for each time it is needed. Is this correct or does asterisk
recreate each ct each time. Either way, I would think a bash script could access
the pointer to the CT or even change the definition.</DIV>

change unless someone else on the connected network unkeys. You could test
this by connecting two locals nodes together. That is why I mentioned
it is confusing because you expect it to change when you are connected and
unkey and it doesn't. Also always remember to 'reload rpt' in the client
