The script is not intended for casual use and is not really for the average user but rather for use on hubs and repeater systems where it would be played at a specific time via a cron job. Like once weekly. That was my original intent. Adding the "now" feature allows you to queue it up and play it manually so you can time it to play at the end of a net or during a net.<br><br>The files are all stored in a temp filesystem thus not being written to the SD card which is the preferred way avoiding SD card writes. Therefore the files are created on demand, played, and deleted. This is why you should queue it to start no more than say 1/2 hour before the start time. If it used files that were created days before and there was a power failure they would not be there.<br><br>That being said if a user wants to play the news personally on there private node that is fine but just don't send it anywhere else without permission. We don't need people repeatedly playing the news over large connected networks. Personally I do not think the news should be played with DTMF commands instead an authorized user should ssh in and start the script or setup a cron job to do it.<br id="FontBreak"></font><br><b><font style="font-size:16pt;" size="4">73 Doug</font><font style="font-size:16pt;" size="4"><br></font><font style="font-size:16pt;" size="4">WA3DSP</font><font style="font-size:16pt;" size="4"><br></font><font style="font-size:16pt;" size="4">http://www.crompton.com/hamradio</font></b><font style="font-size:16pt;" size="4"><br></font><br><br><div><hr id="stopSpelling">From: k8it@cac.net<br>To: arm-allstar@hamvoip.org<br>CC: doug@crompton.com; sam.majchuck@gmail.com<br>Subject: Re: [arm-allstar] playnews-0.6<br>Date: Mon, 31 Aug 2015 00:48:42 -0400<br><br>

<div>Doug. A very usefull feature, but lets make it better yet! How about these
changes to Sam's concept.</div>
<div>1. Split the script into two parts.</div>
<div>part a - would remove all files and then download the mp3 and convert it
into ul files. this would be setup in cron once a week </div>
<div>separate filenames should be used so when the script updates one of the
files, the other news files will remain until it gets updated. this way both
news scripts are the most current, and using part - b script they can be played
multiple times but only one download a week. we have people who want to play the
scripts at different times due to there work schedule.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>part b - would be activated by a dtmf sequence ( I use *930 for ARN and
*932 for ARRL</div>
<div>the purpose of the script would be to change the holdoff value as you
suggest</div>
<div>ID</div>
<div>force an ID</div>
<div>change any other parameters if desired</div>
<div>enable a method to pause the playback in a emergency. we need
options to resume playing or terminate now</div>
<div>play file</div>
<div>force id</div>
<div>reset holdoff parameter</div>
<div>disable or reset any other parameters that was changed</div>
<div>do not delete files</div>
<div>exit script</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
