Hi Neil,

I am also using a Kenwood TM=V71A and would like to share my
simpleusb.conf settings, simpleusb_tune_usb.conf and menu #520 on
the TM-V71A with you. The TM-V71A is a great radio. I can have my
Allstar running on band A and monitor other frequencies on band B.
I've experimented with Menu #520 and it seems like this setting
works the best so that you don't have to worry about noise breaking
the squelch and keying up the node.
Congratulations on getting your node up and especially with
your sight disability. That is a real accomplishment!

Last question first....

The way the stock BBB and RPi2 are setup the connect messages
you originate are voiced but all other are not. The reason is
that the connect and disconnect messaged on a many node
connected link can be very annoying. If you want to change the
behavior there are two settings in the /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf
file that alter this:

holdofftelem=1
telemdefault=2

They are described here -

http://docs.allstarlink.org/drupal/node/37

http://ohnosec.org/drupal/node/103

If you want to hear all connect/disconnect message you would
set telemdefault=1

Now for the audio question....

If you truly have you simpleusb-tune-menu item 2 rx audio set
to 2 then you need to set the rxboost=0 in
/etc/asterisk/simpleusb.conf then go into simpleusb-tune-menu
again and set item 2 rx gain. It will be higher in value.

Let me know how you make out with this.

After a lot of effort, I almost have a 100% working node

I would like to thank everyone for all the help and
putting up with maybe what seemed to be stupid questions. I
have learned a lot.

now I have two final adjustment questions to ask.

1 audio from my local radio kenwood tm-v71A (audio
going to the internet) seems to be distorted and low while
messages produced from my bbb received on the connected node
seem fine. I have the rx audio level set to value 2 any
suggestions? it seems to decoding dtmf just fine.

2 I do not get inbound (from the internet) connection
or disconnect messages on my simplex radio channel. it just
silently connects or disconnects. this is a simple usb

with configuration 1 selected. how can I fix this?

BTW for those that have asked why did this take me so
long.

I did all the work myself, and I am legally blind.

thanks 73 Neil K8IT
