Ron,

I spoke with Bill earlier about this. You want the line (COS) from your radio to follow PL not squelch. It sounds like your line might be following squelch. You can test it by looking at th line with a meter and key a rig into your node rig with PL off. It should not change the state of the line regardless of the squelch setting. With the PL on it should change the state of the line. You may need to dig into the schematic to see where the line you are using comes from.

If it is being run by the squelch and not the PL be careful as an extraneous noise would trigger a signal out over the network and any nodes you were connected to. On some rigs it is a combination of the two but the line should never change just on the state of the squelch.

73 Doug
WA3DSP
http://www.crompton.com/hamradio

> Date: Thu, 26 Jun 2014 14:04:30 -0400
> From: rwenig@verizon.net
> To: arm-allstar@hamvoip.org
> Subject: [arm-allstar] Radio Squelch
>
> Hi All,
>
> I have a question about the operation of my node. I am using a Kenwood
> TM-V71 as a node radio. The interface is the URIx from DMK Engineering
> and I am using a cable that is made for the radio that I ordered from
> KE6PCV. The cable is connected to the 6 pin data connector on the radio.
>
> My simpleusb.conf file is configured for carrierfrom=usb and ctcssfrom=usb.
>
> On the node radio if I have the SQL setting off, fully counter
> clockwise, I cannot key the node with another radio. If I squelch the
> node radio, turn the SQL control clockwise, the node radio will
> transmit, I will hear the courtesy beep on the HT that I'm using to
> monitor the node. I can now key up the node when the radio is
> squelched. I have to be careful and not have the node radio squelch
> adjusted too loose or the node radio will key up randomly. I've tried
> different settings in the simpleusb.conf file and I've tried another
> radio with the same data connector. Is this normal behavior or is there
> another setting I need to check.
>
> 73, Ron NY3J
> _______________________________________________
>
> arm-allstar mailing list
> arm-allstar@hamvoip.org
> http://lists.hamvoip.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/arm-allstar
>
> Visit the BBB web page - http://www.crompton.com/hamradio/BeagleBoneBlackAllstar/
>
