Generally there are two ways that a Bluetooth speaker mic connects to your
phone.
1. As a general Bluetooth audio "headset" device.
If you are getting crashes with any Bluetooth device connected, temporarily
turn off Voice Processing. There seems to be a bug with iOS with reporting
the sampling rate. In my testing, sometimes the Bluetooth device only
supports a 8kHz sampling rate, but iOS tells RepeaterPhone that it's 48kHz.
So RepeaterPhone goes ahead and sets up a 48kHz stream and, boom, crash.
This only happens with their Voice Processing audio unit; the standard
Remote IO unit works fine. What is even weirder is that, once you've
actually set up an audio stream using Remote IO, iOS seems to "discover"
that, "oops, I was wrong, that's really an 8kHz device" and Voice Processing
works fine from there on out. I added an entry to the FAQ
https://repeaterphone.com/faq/ about this because it seems to be a common
problem.
I haven't figured out a workaround for this yet. I'm not really sure how to
second-guess iOS. i.e. "iOS, you told me this is a 48kHz device, but I think
you're wrong. It's really a... hmm, how do I find out what it really is
without asking the OS"
2. As a Bluetooth Low Energy Push-To-Talk button.
There does not seem to be any industry standard, i.e. GATT Profile, when it
comes to the UUIDs used with these devices. I got lucky and found a list of
all the BLE services/characteristics embedded in the Zello app, so I adapted
the list for RepeaterPhone. Hypothetically, this should mean that any device
marketed as "Zello compatible" should be usable as a PTT device. But, of
course, there's a big distance between "hypothetically" and "known working".
I can say that I have specifically bought and tested this speaker mic:

If you let me know which model you're testing with, I can get one on order
and make sure it's supported.

Can anyone point to a bluetooth PTT that has been tested with this app?
