[arm-allstar] Is running named necessary?

Nate,

No, it's not absolutely necessary, however, HamVoIP does a lot of DNS 
lookups, if the node is active.  Bind is generally a good, reliable, 
DNS cache and that's primarily what it's being used for. The default 
HamVoIP installation locks down bind fairly well, minimizing the potential 
for any abuse.  Do you have any specific concerns?
