It likely depends on the provider and who you're working with.

Years back the WISP upgraded their service and it appears I was going to
be behind their router in the CPE.  I asked the tech if it would be
possible to have it setup as a transparent bridge as I was often on the
road for work and needed the public IP at my router for remote access.
He called into the office and was walked through setting the CPE as a
transparent bridge and it was just what I needed.

Since then they changed out equipment for a speed upgrade and configured
the CPE (Ubiquity Networks) as a transparent bridge again.  I don't do
much remote any more but now have a reverse SSH tunnel from my
repeater's Pi into a host on my LAN.
