Try out the parrot mode, which can be activated several ways.

1--you can toggle local echo on/off from simpleusb-tune-menu, option 'C'.

2--enable parrot mode using the cop 21 command from your rpt.conf file, 
via a DTMF function, similar to:

[functions]
841=cop,21     ; parrot mode (store and forward repeat) enable
840=cop,22     ; parrot mode disable


....So, once these function definitions are present, *841 would enable, 
*840 would disable.
