An update for Supermon has been released. Users can update using the ADMIN
menu item 1. It includes the following changes.

- Revamping of the screen display making it more user friendly on small
displays such as phones.
- An option to have a simplified or detailed display eliminating less used
buttons and text for a less
cramped display.
- Less screen clutter in non-detailed mode.
- Columns of multi-node displays line up vertically.
- No distracting size changing effects with mouse overs.
- Increased Login/Logout text size for better visibility
- Correction of 'All Nodes' button URL.
- Time resolution at approximately 10 seconds decreasing Internet bandwidth
use by up to 20 times.
- smlogger now runs in the background to reduce latency on large systems
with many connections.
- Additional background logging scripts are an optional raw log and an
sql-lite log allowing connection
changes in load balancing systems and being able to detect connected and
disconnected nodes.

Version 6.3 marks a change in how Supermon is displayed resulting in much
better view-ability for users. The screen has been redesigned for small
screen users like those using smartphones to display. There are two levels
of screen display modes which can be set in the Display Configuration
button. If you set Detail to “yes” and you are logged in all of the buttons
and extraneous data will appear. Selecting “no” only shows buttons that are
often used and eliminates the time columns.

The screen width has been minimized and centered to the amount needed for
the data displayed. Users will
need to adjust any background photos they are displaying in the header.

Time updates now have an approximately 10 second resolution. This results
in up to 20 times less bandwidth used while still allowing quick event
updates when nodes connect, disconnect, keyup, etc.

To set the Detailed Mode ON or OFF select the Display Configuration button
and select ON or OFF and then UPDATE. The screen will change between the
modes. The default mode is Detailed. Settings are stored in cookies so they
remain the same on whatever browser is being used.

The columns are now lined up horizontally if you display multiple nodes on
a screen making it easier for you to read down the screen. Also displayed
buttons and text does not move around when you hover over them.

Version 6.3 marks a move to make Supermon more usable across differing
displays. Computer or large
screen users can increase or decrease the size of all items with your
browsers zoom feature. In most cases
control + and – will increase and decrease the displayed size.

Logging Changes

In version 6.3 the logging system has been updated. This will result in no
visible changes but will have these additional features. The original
smlogger is now run from a master script that puts it in the background
reducing latency on systems with many connections and many simultaneous
connections and disconnections, Additionally a raw log has been added which
can be optionally turned on. To do so add the file /tmp/smlog. Once this
file is in place it will be filled with raw log data which the user can
process as thy wish.

The best way to add this if desired is to add a line to /etc/rc.local
after rc.allstar -

touch /tmp/smlog

A third log system has also been added using sql-lite that log to the file
/tmp/connectlog.db. This file automatically gets created. This log can be
used to monitor connects and disconnects in load balancing systems and also
to monitor connects and disconnects to alert users when a particular node
is connected or disconnected. You can create a debug log showing how this
works do the following in /etc/rc.local after rc.allstar.

touch /tmp/connect_log

We welcome your input on things that will make Supermon a better product.
