Patrick,

A comment about the 20DB boost setting, which is actually an attenuator, 
not an amplifier.  When you turn the boost setting "on," the attenuator is 
removed and bypassed.

I'm not sure what setting will yield the very best signal to 
noise/distortion, in your usage case.

I also have no idea what the optimal signal levels should be for an 
HRI-200 interface. I would expect to find that info in its manual or a 
support forum for that hardware.

several other modes as well. This is part of a multi-mode system 
involving, at this point, 7 different modes. Optimizing audio quality 
between all modes has been a challenge, but an interesting one.
