How are you turning it on?  You need to initialize in simpleusb.conf -
gpio4=out0   -  first. Then in some way turn it on.

Example in [events]  stanza -

cop,62,GPIO4:1 = c|t|RPT_RXKEYED
cop,62,GPIO4:0 = c|f|RPT_RXKEYED

Which would turn the bit on with COS and off without.
