One solution for this is to set the telemdefault parameter in your 
rpt.conf node stanza to a value of 0 or 2, like:

telemdefault=2

What I was wondering is there a way to turn off the nodes announcements  
when a node connects or disconnecting when your on another node that has 
several connecting and disconnecting all the time?
