Duckdns.org is good and still free. Also has a very small program that runs with contab to keep the ip updated.

I was under the impression from a post by Doug C way back when that this usage was not recommended, as he wrote that that service is run by an un-related party. It does, of course, seem to still work so far.

The OP asked about ddclient and I can testify that it does work quite well on Arch Raspberry (Hamvoip) for any normal DDNS service.

I can also testify that dyndns.org (etc) DDNS as provided by https://dyn.com/ works extremely well, but is no longer free (ah, the good old days). Luckily I donated a few $$$ to the original developer way back when, and as a result am grandfathered into a very nice (still free) setup, even surviving the corp takeover, so it's easy for me.

Just be careful that you use the correct settings for whatever DDNS service you select and carefully test. And be careful relying upon that page (or any page) of settings posted (which you referred to) on the interwebs. If it's not dated, it's likely out-of-date ... and even possibly totally wrong.

Bottom line: it doesn't have to be your router which registers your DDNS, any device which can determine your external address and connect to a DDNS service can do it for you (even for a different DDNS name for each device).

ps: good things sometimes come to those who donate with no expectations.
