This is not a general problem, many are using Pi wifi without issues.
Something must be different about your setup. Are you using static or DHCP
IP address in your Pi? Have you setup anything in your router like static
or reserved DHCP or port forwarding for this Pi?
Remember that wireless will acquire a different IP address using DHCP than
wired. It has a different MAC address.
Try a couple of tests at the Linux prompt -
# iw dev
Should give something like:
phy#0
Interface wlan0
ifindex 3
wdev 0x1
addr b8:27:eb:15:1c:0d
type managed
channel 1 (2412 MHz), width: 20 MHz, center1: 2412 MHz
THEN -
iw dev wlan0 scan | grep SSID:
Should list the available access points.
