Brad,
If you don't get an IP address then it is not really connected. Are you
away from your home wifi? If you have both in there and both are available
it might not go to the one you want. You can clear the wpa-supplicant file
in the setup and start over with scanning and passphrase. I doubt it is a
hamvoip problem though. The fact that you can connect to your home wifi
kind of eliminates that. If you have another phone you can try it would be
helpful. I know with iphones I have seen strange SSID names using special
characters that sometimes screw things up. The phone name is usually the
SSID name. Just use plain characters or numbers. The Pi 2 only does 2.4ghz
but the 3 gives you both 2.4 and 5ghz.
