Gervais,

    What power do you want to run? Is this local or longer distance? The
Baofeng 888 or UV82 would be a good choice for local low power - ~1W. I
would not recommend the TYT's as we have seen many problems with them in
longer duty applications. The Alinco DR-x35 series are good but more
expensive. There are not a lot of in between radios say in the $50 to $100
area that are good.
