On a freshly-updated hamvoip installation, it installs fine here:

Kerry,

What I would recommend is to make another SD card with the image, update
and set it up without anything extra and see if it still does it. If it does
not them something is awry with that image. If it does still do it then it
has to be something else.

Thanks for the help.
i used for better or worse go daddy for the web address.
what i find a little confusing is they had "a" records for my domaine that
point to their servers, that confused me.
that was due to me setting it up via their "HOSTS" page.
i deleted all of that and just put in the "a" record in the dns settings and
all seems OK now.
Thank you again for your assistance
chris

Chris,
If you go to the control panel for your domain registrar and go to your
records for your domain there's a couple of "records" you need to make
active.? You need AT LEAST two!

I use a couple of different registrar services like DYN.com (DYNdns) or
Namecheap.com? Here's an example for "texasrepeaternetwork.net"

The first "service record" you HAVE to have is your "A-record".? Here's an
example:? on DYN.com? the hostname is "texasrepeaternetwork.net" and the
details are listed as the IP address.? On Namecheap.com the record type is A
record, the host is @ (meaning at this record) and the value is the IP
address.

The second "service record" you HAVE to have is your alias "CNAME record".?
Here's an example: on DYN.com the hostname is www.texasrepeaternetwork and
the details are texasrepeaternetwork (referring to your A-record).? On
Namecheap.com the record type is CNAME record the host is www and the value
is texasrepeaternetwork.net.

These are the two records so that when anybody types in
http://texasrepeaternetwork.net/ OR http://www.texasrepeaternetwork.net/ the
DNS servers will point them towards the IP address you reside at.? In my
experience, you need both of these in order for people to find you.? The
only other record you may need is a DNS entry for your mail server called an
"MX record".? Unless you really want to run your own Email server, you do
NOT need an "MX record".? I do NOT recommend you run your own mail server as
it really does make you a target for hackers!

So to make it all work, you only need two, possibly three records for the
world to find your static IP address...

Now, just to make things more complicated (sorry, LOL) you can have more
than one website address pointing to that ONE static IP address.? But that
requires some more editing to your apache2 config file to create multiple
"Virtual host" sites on that server.? I have a couple of static IP's out
there, with as many as five or six websites sitting on the same server at
their IP addresses...?

For example - texasrepeaternetwork.net is listed on DNS as 50.27.185.63.?
But that same address also hosts other sites like
bluebonnetcommunications.com, bluebonnetcommunications.net,
atozmobilehomerepair.com and washingtoncountyares.org - but it also hosts
45441.mooo.com.? Each of those are all on different DNS servers, but they
all point to the same IP address...

If you need a little more coaching and explanation, please feel free to
contact me "off list" and I can help you understand it all - because it IS a
little confusing!? Each DNS servers control panels and their terms are a
little different - it's just more than one way to skin a cat...? The same
cat...? At the same address...

I know that when I change these settings on DYN.com the changes happen in a
matter of seconds.? On Namecheap.com, they can sometimes take as long as 30
minutes for the change to happen for folks out there on the Internet.? But
those two records listed above are the only ones you need setup in order for
things to work...? And don't run an Email server unless you really really
need to.

I hope I haven't confused you more...? :)

?
Do you have a static IP?

If so, set it in your A record and stop the forwarding in your registrar dns
settings.

Doug,

I ran the check_reg.sh and it shows registered. After reviewing the code
again, I found a colon instead of a semicolon for the commit line after the
BetaDNS code. All working now. In the CLI check showed FILE instead of DNS
for the lookup method. After the correction they both showed DNS. The little
things that get you.

Thanks again

Thanks for the reply Doug. I had just asked the question in case I
misunderstood if you required access to my node for the hamvoip
registration. I didn't think you needed it, but just thought I best check.
As for me getting the hamvoip registration, I still show allstarlink.org
when I do the check_reg.sh. Hope this answers your question.

Jim,

OK understood. As long as your registration is working you can continue as
you are. Once the registration update comes out the addition of a hamvoip
registration will be automatic. We are temporarily giving out manually
entered registration just to those having problems registering with Allstar.

I am setting up a second server and checked the settings against the first
working server. Both are running the BetaDNS. The second appears to be
registered as I can see all of the usual WebPages. I can not connect out or
connect in. In the CLI when I run the rpt lookup I get a not found on the
registered node 48637 and a get a good return on the 1999 node. The
node_lookup_method=dns is in both places and spelled correctly.

the Supermon is working too I have reviewed the BetaDNS docs and I didn't
miss anything in the modification. Any ideas?

Thanks

Jud

Since you are setting up a second server on the (presumably) the same LAN
and behind the same router - do both of them have UNIQUE IAX ports open to
the internet that they are being registered on?
Just a thought...

Hi
an domain name was acquired and i have it redirecting as needed to the
supermoon page.
however in the address bar of the browser it displays the ip address after
the redirect not the domain name.
is this something i need to configure in the Apache in the pi3 or is this a
configuration error in the DNS at my provider??
what was found on the internet about this? was confusing to me.
thank you in advance for your help

Do you have a static IP?

If so, set it in your A record and stop the forwarding in your registrar dns
settings.

Jud,

A server must be registered in order to connect in the public Allstar
system. If you run check_reg.sh and it does not show registered then it is
not going to work. If this is the case and turning your node off for 15
minutes then back on and it still does not register get back to me privately
with your node number and IAX port for that node and we can issue you a
hamvoip registration line.

/if you are trying to connect between nodes on different servers on the same
LAN and it is not working you probably need to put routing information in
the rpt.conf files of both nodes with the local IP address and IAX port of
the other server. See the howto for multiple servers on one LAN at the
hamvoip.org website for more information.

Hi all
You may remember me posting a few weeks ago regards echo link timing, well
I?m slowly trying to find why my node kerchuncks who ever I connect to, yet
I could never find the reason for this, still continuing right now.

My radio link remains silent while my node kerchunks who ever I connect to
exactly every 30 minutes.
I have been quietly tearing out my hair while trying to figure out why I was
kerchunking the nodes I connected to.
Today while monitoring the supermon to the connected node, I discovered
that my node drops a carrier on the connected node yet none of the equipment
connect to my node has ptted. My radios are silent, yet my node is
kerchunking the node I connect to.
There is a pattern as this happens every 30 minutes and you can set you
watch by it, so now the next step is to try and find out what is causing
this since I can rule out the radios connected to my system .

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I?m ready to blow this image away
and start from scratch, thanks in advance to anyone who might have some
ideas with this, bearing in mind that my Linux skills are limited.
Thanks regards Kerry VK4TUB
