The Masters Communications RA-42 is an inexpensive radio adapter that
affords a open-collector NPN transistor buffer following GPIO 4 or 8.
While originally intended to interface with TX CTCSS control, the output
can be used generically to control what ever - even a fan directly.
This might allow for a cleaner installation and possibly not be any more
expensive, all things considered.
