Thanks for all of the replies about my problem. As soon as I saw the first post about needing Internet access I had one of those moment where you slap yourself in the forehead about 3 times while repeating...idiot...idiot...idiot. I connected the Ethernet cable and BAM...I was able to do what I needed. Once again thank you all.

Fellows I'm having a problem that I hope someone can help with. I am trying to set up a simplex node with the RB RIM-Maxtrac, GM300, RPi2, and the latest HamVoip software. I get through the "first time config" using the built in script with no trouble. I have changed the root password and not changed the root password (I've re-burnt the sd card many times in the last week). I have also changed the hostname to allstar from alertpi. The rest of the set up goes smooth, answering all questions and changing what needs changed through the ASTERISK setup. I have done and not done the simpleusb set up on different tries. When I answer yes to reboot the system I cannot get logged back in. On reboot I see Arch Linux 4.14.31-1-ARCH (tty1) then under that I get allstar login:. I use root, root or root and the password I've changed it to in set up and can not get logged in. When I press "enter" after the PW I see a couple lines of text flash on screen and then return to the login prompt.
I am going by the setup, configure, and howto's, from the web page but am still finding myself a lost dog in high weeds. Any help, suggestions, or guidance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks & 73
