[arm-allstar] Recommended Radio for Node

Baofeng 888 radios make surprisingly great node radios, or even "back 
yard" repeaters, using a pair of 888's. For a repeater, I hook the RX 
radio to a whip and the TX radio goes to a CB-radio style dummy load via a 
1/2wave section of "leaky" RG58/u coax. This combo is good for 
coverage over perhaps a 1000ft radius.

If you need a better node radio, surplus Motorola MaxTrac radios are an 
inexpensive place to look. Get the version with the 16-pin accessory plug
