Hi LaRoy,
Several popular e-mail servers are available as packages for
installation, including postfix, exim, etc. However, be aware that most
ISP's these days block traffic from customers who directly try to send
e-mail, due to spamming concerns. So, to resolve this issue, you'll likely
have to use the ISP's e-mail servers. You can setup a local copy of
postfix, exim, etc., to send all outbound mail to a "relayhost," which
mitigates this constraint.
For very simple installations, there is also the esmtp package, which is a
very lightweight, relay-only SMTP tool, which again would bounce off your
ISP's e-mail servers.
How are you wanting to send messages--like from what application??
