Actually more like the space for the associated power supply. They were able
to get a PoE RJ45 in there which is nice.
I wish they had a 4-pin array for a USB port as well. That would make USB to
various HATs and the like better.

Probably because many people wouldn't be interested in that feature and it
would add to cost. Hardware improvements yet same price. Cool.
