[arm-allstar] Login "loop"

Hi Allstar lovers,

I recently upgraded to a RPi 3 B+.  I burned a new SD card with the 
latest version from the Hamvoip website that includes the "B+" version.  
I have the Pi with a URiX plugged into a USB port, and an HDMI monitor 
hooked up.  I also have a wireless keyboard and mouse dongle plugged 
into a USB port as well.

My problem is that after I have completed all the "first time" setup 
options, it reboots as expected and then I'm presented with the new 
login prompt.  I enter "root" and then enter my new password that I 
created during setup.  It seems to accept it as the screen flashes 
momentarily but then returns to the login prompt again.  Each time I 
enter both the "root" and user password, it again just loops back to the 
login prompt again.  I even re-burned a new SD card and ran the setup 
again but, still get the same results.

I seem to recall something a while back where others were having a 
similar or related  problem as this.  I've searched the forum archives 
but, don't find the solution.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
