Hi Benjamin,
In general I recommend staying away from fail2ban on an RPi board. In my
experience administering a fleet of ISP boxes, you have to keep a cautious
"eye" on fail2ban to make sure it stays happy, isn't hogging resources,
etc....Great tool, but better suited for a PC server environment.

Fail2ban can also be made to monitor other types of files, and perform
actions based its search->match criteria outside of the author's
intended application. While it will take some tinkering around with to
get the method of operations in the desired order, it can be made to

I have been playing around with fail2ban to watch logfiles and do
things based on what it finds. Of course, all intelligence with
fail2ban (or anything else for that matter) relies solely on the
operator's knowledge of operation fail2ban and more importantly,
regular expressions... to which my personal expressions are usually in
dismay.
I'd like to hear the story of how this task is ultimately completed.
While your task, Chris, sounds like it should be simple, the *idea* of
it, is.Â
The implementation of monitoring and execution of tasks based on
'states of connections' is specialized to the likes of which requires
customization of software and hardware, and, getting those two realms
to play well together.
