Chris,
About any usb-to-serial adapter should work for this type of
application---I mostly use inexpensive PL2303 clones.
If you're wanting to look at the serial interface via an ssh session, the
minicom software (pacman -S minicom) is what I use most frequently.
I know the Arcom controllers also have a MSWin application for
configuration. If you're wanting to use that software, you can setup the
serial interface on the Linux box to be a "virtual" serial interface
hanging off the MSWin system. For most scenarios that aren't timing
critical, this works well, too. Note that you've got to have TCP/IP
connectivity from the RPi3 to the PC for this to work. I always run VPN's
when performing these activities.

Iâve got a tower site where it would be great to have a serial connection to my repeater controller. RC-210
I would like to use my Pi that of course is running hamvoip distro
Can I get a suggestion on what usb to serial device to use and any special setup instructions needed to make it play nice?
Thanks for the help.
Thank you,
