An update to correct crashes and potential core dumps on 7/02 has unearthed
yet another memory allocation problem in the original Allstar code. The
sanity checks we added for memory allocation prevented a potential problem
from happening but as a result also prevented the reconnect mechanism from
working. The problem was the release of memory without setting it to null.
This is bad programming practice and while it might not cause a problem a
large percentage of the time, with the right conditions it will eventually
cause a crash. Undoubtedly we will find more of these problems in Allstar
in the future and correct them making the hamvoip package continually more
stable.
If you are using update V1.5.3-34 or V1.5.3-35 please update ASAP to
correct this problem. The latest version is - V1.5.3-36. Users with
versions earlier then V1.5.3-34 should also update to take advantage of the
more robust code and crash prevention.
Use the ADMIN menu item 1 to update.
Sorry for the inconvenience but you can be assured we are doing our best to
improve the hamvoip Allstar code and we will continue to correct any known
problems. This is why it is important for you to let us know if you are
experiencing any issues.
