Richard,

I recommend you investigate using AMI (Asterisk Manager Interface) as 
the API to get advanced, real-time telemetry for logging, etc.

For a sample application that uses AMI, take a look at the Supermon 
PHP software, in the /srv/http/supermon folder in the HamVoIP release.

Most telemetry data, etc., is exposed via this API....And, even more 
capability is coming.
