I have an Allstar node running on a raspberry pi 3. How do I edit the rpt.conf file? I have tried to edit the rpt.conf and just ftp it back into the raspberry pi. After I do that, the node just sits and hangs up the repeater.

I've been running a repeater using SVXLink for the past couple of years,
but I've always wanted... MORE!
I wanted more configurability on the Echolink side, and I wanted an Allstar
interface. The biggest thing I wanted is APRS integration.
SVXLink injects some information into the IS stream, but does nothing as
far as interfacing with the TNC-Pi (from tnc-x.com). I have a separate
radio/antenna on the tower, and it would be cooler than bread if I could
send repeater commands via APRS. If the software could also
i-gate/digipeat RF packets, that would be awesome, as well.
I have seen in some doc somewhere that APRS integration was a future
endeavor. I was wondering how far off in the future this was going to be
added?

Hi Jerry,
The HamVoIP software release has a full APRS capability package, which
includes the APRX smart digi/i-gate software and the direwolf software
MODEM, which can be used with a standard soundcard. The LinuxRMS software
is included as well.
Note that this software doesn't currently directly interface with AllStar
and will require configuration....Definitely DIY at this point.
But, it works. I use it myself. The package is: hamvoip-packet-tools

I believe all this software works as

Kevin,
You are using an older version of the code and there have been many
updates including a security update since your version. Please do an update
- item 1 in the ADMIN menu on both your nodes. See if that changes anything.

Just to make that clear - packet-tools - is an add-on package and not part
of the normal distribution or updates. It is not needed for normal Allstar
operation. To download if you need it do -
pacman -Syu hamvoip-packet-tools

Hello,
We put in a thumbdrive and set the archivedir to point to it.
Immediately we see .WAV files show up for every key-up to our
repeater. Kudos to the developers as this is exactly what we want.
Very cool.
However, we noticed that during a system reboot all previous WAV files
are deleted. This is certainly not what we want.
I'm not quite sure what is performing the delete action, but I assume
it is the hamvoip/allstar package.
Question:
Is there a way to prevent deletes of archived information to actually
make the archive directory an archive?
Thanks.

In my case, it was saved to internal memory. Some command line stuff needed
to be added so that the files would dump to external drive.

NEVER archive to the SD card or Pi ram. It sounds like that is what you are
doing if you are losing it in a reboot. While the SD card would save it, it
could also be damaged very quickly and the RAM is not large enough and is
volatile. On a busy system the WAV files take a lot of space.
Archiving must be done to an external device. The best thing to use is a
USB stick. You can get 32G, 64G and even
128G and larger sizes. You would then need to mount it and direct the
archive to that directory. Anything that is external would work even a USB
hard drive connected to the Pi.
You also have the option of saving it on another system but I would suggest
not doing this over the Internet unless yo have a large pipe
at both ends. Saving to a local computer on the same LAN might be a better
choice.
You also could use broadcastify to save all audio to their site where it is
archived and you can look back through it later. In this case it is not
individual files. This would also give other and opportunity to listen to
your repeater. A howto on broadcastify is on the hamvoip.org web page.
