Steve,

 Asterisk in the current configuration logs to /var/log/asterisk/messages
which is defined as a tmpfs - writes to RAM not SD

Partial df -

tmpfs              51200    2188     49012   5% /var/log

or

tmpfs            50M  2.2M   48M   5% /var/log


It is limited to 50Mbytes.  So if you are heavily logging keep an eye on it
or run a back ground script that limits the logs size. I run scripts here
that keep an eye on all tmpfs and trims log files.
