seems you have not updated in awhile? I really think something has gotten
corrupted and at this point the best thing to do would be to burn a new SD
card and start over. Since this card is still readable once you get a new
card up you can put this card in a USB reader plugged into the Pi and mount
it and you could carefully copy any custom files over if needed. Otherwise
just start fresh.
