[arm-allstar] WiFi Static IP

Hi Klaus,

There currently is no way to adjust the WiFi interface to use a static IP
address using the admin menu tools.

However, you can manually add a static IP for WiFi by modifying the
/etc/systemd/network/wlan0.network file. A static setup should look
something like:

[Match]
Name=wlan0
[Network]
DHCP=no
DNS=127.0.0.1
Address=10.10.232.111/24
Gateway=10.10.232.1

....I run static IP address configs on all my RPi3 boards and run WiFi
exclusively. With a good Access Point, it runs flawlessly.

Are you saying you do need a static ip but make it static using the router and then do the port forwarding to the ip the router gave the node pc? It is sort of backwards to what I am used to doing and I would prefer the old way I am used to.
I was able to set a static ip on the eth0 wired connection and was surprised there was no field to allow setting the wifi static ip. in the wifi setup fields.

Klaus,

  While wifi could be made to work in static mode it is seldom used that
way. Why do you need static? If you are using a nat'ed router the best
thing to do is allow it to find an IP address using dhcp then go into your
router and make that address reserved or static dhcp (routers call it
different things). The router uses the machine address (MAC) of the Pi
board to identify it and assign the same address each time one is
requested. Then you can port forward to that address if you desire.

Portable nodes should never use a static address because you have no
knowledge of the IP topography of the network you might be connecting to
and port forwarding is usually not available or necessary.
