Richard,

  You certainly could use VPN but there might be an easier way. First of
all just for the record Freedom POP works fine and it is free - 500M/month
- 1G/month if you get 10 friends (we have them).

Let me ask you a few questions. Are you getting an assigned IP address from
the mifi? Is your node getting Registered? Are you getting the nodes
download?

You would need to connect a monitor and keyboard to see the registration
and nodes.  Run the asterisk client - then  iax2 show registry  - to see if
you are registered.  Run a linux shell and at the Linux prompt do - ls
/tmp  - and look for the file rpt_extnodes.  If it is there you are getting
the node downloads.

Let me know what you find. There might be an easy fix.
