[arm-allstar] WARNING: Exclamation Explanation - Don't use it

While stumbling around setting up another node today, I fell into an
apparently known, but undocumented, HamVoip/AllStar/Linux/PHP *trap*. My
first clue was that Supermon just refused to work properly.
I had made the creative mistake of using an "!" embedded in my
password. Gee, it sounded like such a good idea.
Apparently this can cause massive thrombosis in the node innards by
triggering all sorts of parsing errors, which can be found if you
finally look in the logs otherwise available thru Supermon (ooops ...).
If you didn't know this, I'll save you an hour or two of misery (until
the documentation gets updated): Be forewarned - Don't use an
exclamation point (!) is any variable definitions especially passwords -
it totally confuses the parsing of the config files it seems.
My thanks to those two folks who pointed this out earlier this year in
the emailing list (I eventually found them in the archives). That new
search function is a very nice tool.
Don't you just love mysteries with hidden solutions when you're simply
trying to make something work?
Don't use !
Cheers,
- Don - AA7AU
