[arm-allstar] Node Radio

I'm looking for an alternative low cost node radio.  I have built two nodes with the BF888, RPI3, DMK URi.  I'm thinking it would be nice to get more power and the option for 2 meters. I use my nodes mobile through a hotspot which does not require the power, and I also use them as base nodes with a home brew 440 MHz ground plane antenna up about 15 feet.  Having the option to run high or low power, 2 meter or 440 would be nice.
I am looking at UV-5RHP and UV-82HP.  I've heard the UV-5R will overheat on the high power mode so I assume the HP version would be even worse.  Is this the same situation with the UV-82HP?   I will be removing them from the case as I did with the BF888 so I don't know if heat will still be a problem.
I see good instructions for modifying the UV-82 on line.  Are the connection points the same on the UV-82HP?
Any recommendations on choice of node radio would be appreciated.
Thanks,  Chris - W6CS - 73
