The man page for date states:
...
By default, date pads numeric fields with zeroes. The following
optional flags may follow '%':
- (hyphen) do not pad the field
...
It suggests use of the optional "-" flag as a solution, which works
correctly:
# echo http://content.blubrry.com/arrlaudionews/AAN-$(date --date="last
friday" +%Y-%-m-%d).mp3
http://content.blubrry.com/arrlaudionews/AAN-2017-8-04.mp3
