Chris,

 I assume you are logging in with the HDMI port and a USB keyboard directly
to the Pi rather than through ssh (putty) from another computer. When you
log in that way you will get those messages. Ignore them. It is still
accepting your keyboard input. Either wait until it stops or enter your
username and password - root and root for first time install. Then answer
yes to firsttime setup.

The messages you  are seeing are from the wireless code and as I said can
be ignored. In future versions you will not see this.
