[arm-allstar] Has anyone tried RECORD in Asterisk?

I have found references to RECORD in Asterisk tutorials. Wondered if it was
possible to use that function to record repeater announcements from say the
IAX port. If I could cook up some DTMF  commands, it might be possible to
do something like recording voicemail greetings on a PBX phone.
Thoughts anyone who may have traveled down this road before...
