Hi Bob,
Once COS is active, you should see a dancing text bargraph in the row just
below the "v -- 3KHz v -- 5KHz" line. That is a software-based received
audio VU meter of sorts.
To set the audio level, transmit a 1KHz test tone with 3KHz deviation into
the AllStar attached receiver. Optimally, the transmitted signal should
have PL tone turned off. The RX level on the bargraph should be adjusted
to the 3KHz point, by selecting a number between 0 and 999 for the
level....Successive tries may be required.
When I need to set levels in the field, I "calibrated" (in the service
menu) the DTMF output level of a VX-7R HT so that my number 7 key closely
approximates the 3KHz deviation level needed. That's a lot easier than
lugging a service monitor around as a signal source, and seems to work
fine for this setting, in my experience!
