I solved this problem for Clint and it is a good reminder that the version 1.6 wireless code does NOT accept spaces in SSID's or open networks. As soon as he updated the system in question to the new 1.7 package from hamvoip.org it worked fine.

Anyone have any success in having a Verizon 4G MiFi connect to the Pi3 ? 

I can connect a my home network... Xfinity.. wired and wireless but not the  Verizon 4G LTE MiFi Clint
