Well it should be. There wasn't anything changed that would make it any different than the prior version.

Asterisk has two audio play modes - playback and localplay. In playnews I call them global and local to avoid confusion.

In playback (global) the audio will go to the node specified and ANY node connected to it whether direct or through other nodes. If the node you specify is not connected anywhere it will only play to that node and behave like local playback.

In localplay (local) it will only play locally to the specified node regardless of what other nodes it is connected to. It will only play to a radio, iaxrpt, web transceiver, etc. connected to that node.

Doug,
I'm a bit confused on "local" versus "global" playback, do I have this right?
If it's local playback, it will ONLY play on the node specified, and not go out any linked nodesIf it's global playback, it will play on the node specified, plus route to any nodes it is connected to
Or is global "just play on every node connected to the system"?

I thought about that but there is no easy way. You would have to modify rpt.conf then reload it. Then modify it afterwards and reload it. It could be done in a script but that would be up to the user. I don't want to get into modifying user files.

An good option that would work is to setup a pseudo node and run it from there with holdofftelem=0. Actually you could have all telemetry set to off. Connect that node to whatever other nodes on the server you want to play it on. I have it running on a hub here that has no radios and most telem turned off so the setting holdofftelem=0 has no consequences. It is never a bad idea to run things like this on a pseudo node though. It doesn't even have to be a registered node. Use some node number less than 2000. No need to waste a registered node.

Doug,
Is there a way to add a command into the script to execute the holdofftelem=0 setting for the duration of the news playback, then set it back to what it was before?
