Hi Jim,
Yes, that basic DC-DC converter seems to work exceedingly well. I use the
same variety with leads and solder the 5V leads directly to the
boards--either the RPi2 or BBB. I put powerpoles on the input side and
power from the radio/repeater 13.8V DC supply.
