Neil,
Congratulations on getting your node up and especially with your sight disability. That is a real accomplishment!
Last question first....
The way the stock BBB and RPi2 are setup the connect messages you originate are voiced but all other are not. The reason is that the connect and disconnect messaged on a many node connected link can be very annoying. If you want to change the behavior there are two settings in the /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf file that alter this:
holdofftelem=1
telemdefault=2
They are described here -
http://docs.allstarlink.org/drupal/node/37
http://ohnosec.org/drupal/node/103
If you want to hear all connect/disconnect message you would set telemdefault=1
Now for the audio question....
If you truly have you simpleusb-tune-menu item 2 rx audio set to 2 then you need to set the rxboost=0 in /etc/asterisk/simpleusb.conf then go into simpleusb-tune-menu again and set item 2 rx gain. It will be higher in value.
Let me know how you make out with this.

Subject: [arm-allstar] final adjustment questions
After a lot of effort, I almost have a 100% working node 41838
I would like to thank everyone for all the help and putting up with maybe
what seemed to be stupid questions. I have learned a lot.
now I have two final adjustment questions to ask.
1 audio from my local radio kenwood tm-v71A (audio
going to the internet) seems to be distorted and low while messages produced
from my bbb received on the connected node seem fine. I have the rx audio level
set to value 2 any suggestions? it seems to decoding
dtmf just fine.
2 I do not get inbound (from the internet)
connection or disconnect messages on my simplex radio channel. it just
silently connects or disconnects. this is a simple usb
with configuration 1 selected. how can I fix this?
BTW for those that have asked why did this take me so long.
I did all the work myself, and I am legally blind.
thanks 73 Neil K8IT
